fall garden

I spent some time in the garden yesterday pulling out a bunch of dead and dying plants. So long cucumbers. Adios eggplant. The dead plants piled up in the yard like corpses.

I added new soil and then planted some lettuce! The strawberries, kale and thyme have taken over the garden. And the colorful peppers that I planted a few months ago have started producing! I also added some broccoli and fennel to the mix. Next, I have some pole beans to start from seed and for the first time, I bought some watermelon seeds. We'll see how that works out.

I made such a simple lunch yesterday with home grown kale. I sauteed the leaves in walnut oil and served them over brown rice with fresh lemon juice squeezed on top. Delicious!!

  1. Looking good! Watermelon is definitely a summer crop, though. Needs a lot of sun. I'm pretty sure pole beans are summer, too.

  2. Thanks, Craftsister! yeah, I tend to play Russian roulette when it comes to what I plant in the garden....I just figure that considering all those times the newscaster says it's going to rain and it doesn't adds up to weeks of extra sun here! Speaking of which, it's supposed to rain on Wednesday....I'm already skeptical.... (cut to major storm Wednesday)
