And before we begin, I wanted to introduce you all to my pet pooch, Reba.
Reba is the mutt of all mutts; we adopted her as a puppy at a pound in South Central L.A. almost 9 years ago!
She is sweet (especially with the boys), energetic and interested in everything we do, especially when it comes to food.
Today's tutorial is a homemade dog biscuit tutorial that your canine friends will love. This recipe was first printed March 1st, 2012 in the dog column of the Los Feliz Ledger that I have been writing for close to 10 years!
I love baking and I love my dog! So I thought it would be fun to combine the two and share with you one of my favorite dog biscuit recipes!
Peanut Butter Sandwiches
For the biscuit:
3 cups flour (any combo of white and whole wheat would work)
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ cup oatmeal
1 cup peanut butter
1 ½ cups milk
½ tablespoon molasses
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/3 cup cream cheese
For the filling:
½ cup peanut butter
½ cup cream cheese
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix first three ingredients in a bowl. Mix the next five ingredients in a mixer until well blended. Add this soft mixture to your dry ingredients to form dough.
Roll out your dough and using a cookie cutter (a bone-shaped cutter would be perfect!) cut out your shapes. Bake for 25 minutes.
To make the filling, mix the peanut butter and cream cheese together.
Once cookies have cooled, spread filling between two cookies and watch as your dog begs for more!
The best part is, if your kids are watching and say, "I want one!" you can totally give them one!
Tune in tomorrow for a special giveaway. I'll give you a hint, it's something you can use to help you make this recipe!!
In the meantime, feel free to use the comments space below to introduce us to your pets!
