Pirate Eye Patch Tutorial

It's time for a Pirate Party tutorial!

Doodlebop's 3rd birthday is fast approaching. One of the activities we will be doing is some sort of treasure hunt (I don't quite have it all sorted out yet, but I know that 6-year-old Mr. P. would like nothing more than to lead a bunch of 3-year-olds on a treasure hunt.)

I thought that at each step along the way, they could discover something pirate-themed that could be added to their "costume".

So I made a bunch of pirate patches.

These were really quite easy to make.

Pirate Eye Patch Tutorial

Materials Needed:

black elastic (1/4 inch or smaller)
black felt
1. Cut felt into the shape of an eye patch.

or in my case, cut 20!

2. Cut elastic to about 18 or 19 inches (or measure child's head for more accuracy.)
3. sew elastic to the eye patch. Make sure elastic doesn't twist. It's best to sew elastic in two places (see very blurry picture below.

And there you have it!

  1. This is such a great tutorial. I can totally see making these for my girls in the future. Would love to have you come link-up at Finished it Friday! Have a fabulous weekend!

  2. My son had a pirate birth day party a year ago and I wish I had thought of making the eye patches myself. I'm a new follower and I would like to invite you to come to my brand new blog @ and if you like follow me too.

  3. Fantastic :-) nice and easy as well as safe n soft for little ones :-)
